The house cannot stay without a bathroom or at least an area where cleaning is done. Bathrooms are made of a wide array of materials. Some of these materials wear out more quickly and some would last long if only if good care is taken. Bathroom suites are expensive and if you want to maintain them to look as new as the time you installed them here are some basic tips for you:
1. Acrylic surfaces
These tend to be softer and they easily scratch. Abrasive cleaners will damage them. Avoid using scouring powders or rough/abrasive cleaners on them. Stains or scratches can be removed by gently polishing the surface. The best way to clean then is by using warm soapy water and rinse with cold water.
Acrylic bath are easily stained by soaps and oils and some salts tend to corrode them so cleaning them as soon you are through using them is advised. They are also quick to take in dyes and so care should be taken when placing such compounds on acrylic tiles or surfaces.
2. Porcelain enameled surfaces
These should be cleaned using warm soapy water, rinsed with clean water and then dried and polished. Regular cleaning is needed to prevent a buildup of salts, which end up corroding the surface. One has to be extremely choosy when deciding on which cleaning products to use.
3. Marble surfaces
These surfaces are very resilient to shock damage and are the easiest to clean. Avoid using abrasive cleaners since they can still be scratched.
4. Wooden surfaces
The first rule is ensuring that the wooden surfaces have been placed away from constant flowing water as possible as this encourages rot. Most wooden surfaces in the bathroom are the cabinets so ensure that you always leave then dry. To avoid humidity from affecting the surfaces most people cover it with a layer of PVC. These are cleaned with warm soapy water.
5. Glass surfaces
These are mostly found on windows or shower enclosures or partitions. They are the easiest to care for since they need the same care that we give to the windows around the house. One thing to note is not to be quick to clean them with cold water after a very hot shower.
6. Plastic surfaces
A lot of bathroom stores are made of plastic materials. Ensure that you follow the manufactures instructions on how to clean the different plastic products that you have bought.
